EmTech Digital Latam 2019 was held on July 2nd and 3rd in Mexico City. It is an event held by MIT Technology Review in collaboration with IPADE Business School and Opinno.

During the meeting it is expected to analyze how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing countless sectors. Beatriz Ferreira, director of Opinno in Latam, offered her position. Rafael Gómez Nava, Director General of IPADE Business School. And Ricardo Rentería, leader of Amazon Web Services in northern Latin America, gave some concepts.

An example of the above is that they assure that there is no sector that is not going to be transformed or changed due to artificial intelligence. The world has already changed and will give way to new business models. It is expected that technologies will become more and more affordable and that aspects such as income, sales and ways of doing business will be exposed.

Emtech Digital Latam

MIT Technology Review collaborated with IPADE Business School and Opinno to hold EmTech Digital Latam 2019 in Mexico City on July 2nd and July 3rd. The central topic of the event was the impact that artificial intelligence is having on the industries in the region and the opportunities that are arising as the world undergoes a digital transformation. Leaders in emerging technologies and disruptive technologies therefore came together to discuss the topics, and academics, investors, growth hackers, and those interested in innovation in their own sector attended. This was the second annual EmTech Digital Latam held in Mexico, a country with an ever-increasing and evolving innovative business ecosystem.

Beatriz Ferreria, director of Opinno in Latam, offered her analysis on how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing countless sectors, and particularly how AI is revolutionizing industries within Latin America. Further involved in the discussion was Rafael Gómez Nava, Director General of IPADE Business School and Ricardo Rentería, leader of Amazon Web Services in northern Latin America.

The conversation on Artificial Intelligence expanded beyond the overarching theme of how technology is creating opportunities in every sector. The thought leaders spoke on how have we arrived at this point and how technology and artificial intelligence is redefining the way we live and work. Controversial topics such as the ethics of artificial intelligence and to what extent AI should be welcomed into our lives was debated. The productive discussion ended with a talk on the future of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies and how it will redefine the world we live in.

Each contributor emphasized that there simply is no sector that will not be transformed or changed due to artificial intelligence. As the world advances, we have seen the business ecosystem evolve and give way to new business models, such as open and agile innovation. Technology and innovation are further becoming a prospect for many sectors and businesses, as they are increasingly more affordable and more normalized in society.

According to MIT Technology Reviews Insights and Opinno’s Beatriz Ferreira, “More than 90% of Mexican CEO’s know the benefits of Artificial Intelligence, for example: they give more time to develop new budgets, more creative solutions and more effective sales.” This means change is happening in Mexico: not only in the future, but in the present.

The event was held in Mexico City as the city is increasingly innovative and has become a hub for Latin American start-ups. In fact, in the past 6 years, Mexico as a country has shown that their growth of new start-ups led by 18-64 year olds has been higher in Mexico than other considerably booming countries like Korea, the UK, and Singapore. With high investment in research and development as well as policy reforms, innovation and technology will play a big part in Mexican companies.
