Mohammad Yunus, economist and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, visits the country and joins the battle.

Our figures as a country are far from encouraging. According to the president of the republic, Juan Manuel Santos, in Colombia, 1 out of 3 Colombians is poor and 1 in 10 live in extreme poverty. Such figures are foreign to many but are related closely to others such as the economist and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Muhammad Yunus, who was born in Bangladesh; one of the most poverty-stricken countries in the world. Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank, Bank for the Poor, and pioneer of the "Social Business" concept (a new dimension of capitalism whose priority is to address social problems), visited us last Friday, November 29th and 30th, in Bogotá and Manizales for the "Innovative Strategies for Poverty Alleviation" forum. This meeting, organized by the National Agency for Overcoming Extreme Poverty (ANSPE) and Semana magazine, brought together political leaders, different foundations, leaders of national and international private companies, the media and members of the community, with Yunus as a special guest, to discuss the major problems the country faces. In addition, the solutions currently being performed as well as those that will be implemented were discussed; all of which seek to carry out the principle objective of fighting poverty in Colombia.
