"EmTech is the place to transform ideas into solutions. A place to meet the most innovative people companies in the world "Jason Pontin, editor of Technology Review. Ten years after its first edition in Boston organized by MIT, EmTech (Emerging Technologies) arrived in Latin America through its magazine Technology Review in Spanish managed by Opinno.

Emerging Technologies is the annual conference in which leading experts present innovative technologies, many of which are still unknown to the public, and have the potential to impact the lives of people and change the rules of doing business and organizing society in the next decade. With Medellin as the host city, Emtech premiered in Latin America in July 2012. They had the support of the Municipality of Medellin as part of its commitment to promote Science, Technology and Innovation as pillars that strengthen the international image of Medellin as a city of knowledge.

The reason for choosing Medellín as the host city of this important "premiere" of EmTech in Latin America reflects the cities urban and technological development strategy and that the objectives of the Competitiveness for Economic Development with Equity city plan are being accomplished, according to Mayor Aníbal Gaviria Correa.

EMTECH Colombia brought together 755 attendees from 8 different countries, representatives from more than 350 companies registered and students from over 17 different universities. With more than 150 accredited journalists EmTech Colombia exceeded the $740,000 economic valuation in media coverage and was national trending topic on the first day of the conference. The TR35 Colombia Awards were presented to the 10 most outstanding young Colombian innovators under 35 of the year, the Investors Forum was also held, a meeting between venture capitalists and technology-based Colombian companies in their early stages.

The contents of the conference was organized around three main fundamental topics: smart cities, investment and business opportunities in new technologies, and Latin America and the global digital transformation.

EmTech is the natural breeding ground for the Opinno Network. A fascinating environment for the variety of subjects, level of content and especially the diversity of its participants. From the speakers (great minds and visionaries) to the groups of entrepreneurs and students who assist in search for information, training and networking.

Cultures and disciplines multiply explosively to generate an environment of innovation, growth and future.

Medellin has been an excellent launch pad for a Latin American EmTech, because it has the bold vision of being the City of Knowledge, as well as being the city of Eternal Spring. And as said Jorge Barrera, founding president of the Entrepreneurs Forum of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Colombia (in English, MIT Enterprise Forum Colombia). "EmTech has been a great experiment, a great achievement, is a seal of validation that something is going well." And as Jorge Barrera, founding president of the MIT Enterprise Forum Colombia, said "EmTech has been a great experiment, a great achievement, its a seal of validation that something is going well."
